Update, Sleep Problems, Adventures :)

Arianna Update:
Ari is now 19 months old, and I can't count the changes that I have seen in her in such a short while. She is really turning into a little girl. She loves to watch what I do and try to copy and do things herself, but still will still grab my hand and pull me over to something interesting :)
She loves to "go car." Which is her way of saying 'let's get out of the house.' She knows we need to put shoes and socks on before we leave, or as she says it "shoes and shoes."
After the Gradens left, I realized how much Ari learned from their girls. Ari is a cautious girl, so she doesn't normally get into much unless she sees that it is safe. From seeing older girls navigate the house she has gotten more comfortable in our home. She learned that the kitchen is full of fun toys in every drawer, that the counter is a wonderland full of delightful new adventures, and that toys must be spread to every corner in order to be fully enjoyed.
Ari's speech is amazing. She has a huge vocabulary and can put 3 or 4 words together. She is also understanding requests and obeying surprisingly well.
She still loves to read and dance!!

Sleep Problems
(I write this in hopes it will help someone else who has a toddler who suddenly stops sleeping through the nights.)
We have had a major struggle lately with her sleep. Ari has always been a very good sleeper, but about a month and a half ago she started waking up multiple times during the night. Then she would get up very early in the morning (5am some mornings). At the beginning we attributed this to teething: she was getting 4 teeth in at once, and she seemed to be waking up in pain. Then her teeth all came in, and she was still waking up periodically at night and then early in the morning. This started affecting her behavior during the day. She was irritable, always had to be entertained, and would burst into tears for no reason.
We thought it might be a bladder infection, but all the tests came back negative. Then we thought it was some outside disturbance, so we covered her windows. While the Gradens were here, we moved her to our room in the pack and play and it didn't help. We finally thought that she must be wet and uncomfortable, so I bought over night diapers. That night she slept through the night and woke up at a reasonable time...but the next night was back to the same problems.
This week it escalated. Ari woke up screaming and would not be put back down. We tried everything to get her to go back to sleep in a bed, but nothing worked. (She would calm down when we held her but as soon as she was out of our arms she would scream again.) During these fits she learned how to climb out of her crib and we started to worry about safety.
After 2 nights of only 4 hours of sleep we had no idea what to do. After fasting, praying, researching, and talking it over with family, we came up with a plan. We thought that she was having nightmares and needed to be comforted when she woke up but needed to go back to sleep in her bed. (We removed the springs the crib mattress was on and put it on the floor so it was lower in the crib) When we put her back to bed she started screaming immediately, but we left the room. We would go in ever minute or two and lay her back down. After 30 minutes of this she caught on and stayed laying down and cried herself to sleep. We have been doing this for a few nights now and each night has gotten better. Last night she only woke up twice and didn't need any "reminding" to lay back down. Hopefully she will be sleeping through the night again soon :)

Some of our adventures lately:
I was cleaning the house and found her pioneer bonnet, Ari had a blast playing with it :)

We helped to clean the church on Saturday and Ari was a big helper. She also helped contribute some fingerprints on the windows :)

Feeding the ducks at the park.

Ari's hair is getting long enough to french braid :)

I have to brag...

So Arianna still won't walk, but she does so many other amazing things!
Ari can color! She understands the concept and will not be fooled by leaving the cap on :)
She loves to read, this is what I normally find her doing. She would love me to read to her all day long. It is so hard to say "No, I can't read you a book right now..."

Ari has an amazing imagination. She treats her monkey like a person and talks to it. She also snuggles with it, covers it with a blanket and pats it's back...

Ari can talk! It has been really hard to capture on video because she just wants to play with the camera, but she can say "ball", "brown bear", "duck" ,"dog", "dad", "where's the ball", and "book."

Ari loves to be outside! She has started to cry when I bring her in, or she sits at the door and tries to put her coat on to go out...I can't wait for warm weather!

Some other things that I haven't been able to capture with the camera...
  • She makes noises when she plays with her cars and trucks
  • If her nose isn't too raw she will let you wipe it, and will even blow!
  • She still charms strangers with her smile :)
  • She sleeps 12 hours at night, 7:30-7:30 (when she isn't sick)
  • She has finally started to get cuddly, only when she is tired, but that is better than nothing.

What Ari does when I am not looking...

Today I was getting some work done...wait what was that? Work was actually getting accomplished while Arianna was awake? Yes! But that usually means Ari is up to no good. The other day when she was "too quiet" she had emptied her wipes all over her room, pulled all the blankets out of the closet,  and had unfolded all my neat piles of laundry...So what was she up to today? Well I caught it on camera...

Yup, she was "reading" :) she did this for at least ten minutes...Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? is her favorite book right now. I even took this video, edited it, uploaded it, and then went back in to check on her and she was still reading...Arianna is one amazing little girl.

Messes

Arianna is a master mess-maker. Ben says that it feels like every room in our house is Ari's playroom, and it is true. Arianna seems to feel that the place for toys, clothes, towels, pots and pans, lids, food, diapers, and various other items is the floor. As long as they are strewn every where there is no need to touch them, but as soon as they are "put away" she must act.
My favorite is watching Ari pull down all my nicely folded clothes and try to put them on. I can count on a good half hour of quiet play time from this activity. It is worth having to refold the clothes ;)
I have been trying to document some of these messes, because that is what my life consists of, but I don't think I have been able to capture the scale...

Need Advice...

Hi everyone! I have an issue that I would love some advice on. Ari has started a strange habit and I am not sure what to do, or if this is something that I should worry about.
We noticed, about a month ago, Ari would scream/squeal in fear when she saw a purple elephant toy. It didn't matter if it was just lying there or if we were playing with it, she would scream and shy away. We thought this was funny and cute and even took a few videos of it. But then it happened with her FAVORITE lion toy. This was the first toy she ever played with. She started reacting in the same way as the purple elephant. The only thing these things seemed to have in common was that they both "rattled"  but she didn't seem to mind other rattle toys.
This has slowly been escalating. She would find about 1 toy a day that she would be playing with then suddenly start screaming at. She doesn't stop screaming until I remove the toy, then it is back to business as usual. Today it was 3 new toys....I can't seem to find a common element. They don't all have rattles, they aren't the same texture or color...all they have in common are faces...
Here are the ones we have at our house, there have been a few at Grandma's house too...

I have noticed that she is starting to play very well on her own. She babbles and crawls around and seems to be "playing" some of game in her head. Could this all be her imagination starting to come out? Should I "protect" her from these toys or should I try to show her that they are "nice"? I am afraid that we will run out of toys pretty quickly if this continues.
Has anyone else had any experiences like this? Anyone have any guesses as to what is going on? Should I be worried? Is this just a phase?

Working from home...

Most of you know that Ben and I own our computer repair business. This lets me stay home with Ari. I answer the phones and do the paperwork and can mostly stay on top of things. Occasionally I have to go into the other room so that a customer won't hear Ari cooing in the background...But yesterday it couldn't be avoided.
On top of running our computer repair business, I also tutor from home. I used to go to my students but with Ari here, I lowered my rates and have them come to me. Ari is pretty good at entertaining herself, but when she gets tired she gets LOUD...I know this wasn't very professional of me, but I got a video of her during our tutoring session. My student was amazing and just ignored her, but she was going on like this for over 10 minutes. She is also learning to bounce herself...I think it is pretty cute and I thought you would like to see...
